Its winter in Bangalore and days, particularly mornings, are pretty cold and cloudy. That makes it more difficult for me to get up early and reach office on time
I used to be a regular on the Volvo that passes through my place between 7 and 7:10 but lately I have been hopping into any city bus that I come across (cost cutting you see!). Today was one such day.
Early mornings usually means less traffic and less crowded buses. Marathahalli is one of the major bus stops en route to my office, which is always overcrowded and kind of congested. Happened to witness an incident as my bus was reaching the main bus stop today that prompted me to blog. There was this 20 something lady, sipping a tender coconut that she had just purchased from a roadside seller(you should ask my buddy Varun about roadside tender coconuts – he has had a pretty filthy experience
), hurrying to board the bus that I was in. Just before hopping into the bus, she very carelessly threw the coconut on the ground, spilling whatever water was remaining in it – part of it fell over the auto driver who was standing there !! The usual way for them to react is to abuse the offender in kannada – this guy somehow took it in a lighter way by just passing a sarcastic smile
Garbage disposal in the city, for whatever reasons, is already pathetic. On umpteen occasions I have seen people throwing them on the roadside because there are no bins around, making the whole place to stink! To add to this there are such ignorant people like this young lady. I wonder what sort of chastisement she would have had to go through if she had done such a thing in any other developed country; true, she is not the first or the only one to do such an act but I feel that the ‘common man’, being part of an educated and developing society, should have a better sense of responsibility.
I hope some eyes open through this. Everywhere in Bangalore we see garbage dumps.

I Pledge. Not to strew the streets with Garbage.
There was a time i used to frequent the local MRTS in Chennai to commute to my classes every weekend. One day morning, at five forty am, i was waiting for my six o clock train at the station.
The seats in Chennai MRTS railway station are like Siamese twins. One backrest has two seats facing opposite sides ( What do they call them, Janus? )
I didn’t care who was sitting behind me, till such time that i had a paper cup flying right next to me with some warm coffee flying on to me!! I expected a sorry to fly after it, but nothing did.
It was the days of Lage Raho Munnabhai, and it took phenomenal restraint for me not to turn around and slap that person. I turned back, looked at the back of a college going girl. She had no clue of what had happened. I wanted to pick up the cup to put it in the garbage bin.
Guess what ? There was not a single garbage bin on sight!!!! The whole of station, i could not find one! Laughing, i gave up. Turned around, i called the girl and told her what she had done. She said a meek sorry, which was drowned by the arriving sound of my train.
I left the paper cup there. I had no clue of what else to do.
There is a foot note. The next morning, i hung a cover near the corner of the tea shop, bought a coffee I should actually say concoction), and put my empty cup there in the cover.
After all, we Indians do have the “following” mentality
. I can only hope people “followed” and made that the garbage bag.
I hope. And, i still pledge.

Too true, not only of Bangalore, but of the Nation!
As you say, if it had been elsewhere, it would have been an entirely different game altogether!
First time here, from Vid’s blog! You pictures on the other blog are totally mesmerizing!
